It's been a particularly stressful semester, and I've been listening to a lot of classical music as a way to relax. These are two of my favorite new discoveries, and I listen to them almost every day (I actually discovered both of them when they were used to memorable effect in two different movies.) No guarantee that anyone else will like them, but I find them very beautiful and evocative. Neither, unfortunately, has a particularly exciting video (though the first does show the movie where I first heard the piece.)
Does the second piece remind anyone else of "Beauty and the Beast" for some reason?

I really like the first one. What is the main instrument--a marimba?
The beginning of the second one did remind me a little of Beauty and the Beast.
I have always found that music can be a great stress reliever . . . although I tend to de-stress by belting out songs while I'm driving alone :o) I hope things get less stressful soon!
I really like the first piece! Do you know what instruments they are playing in it? Is one of them the xylophone?
I can hear how the second one reminds you of Beauty and the Beast. I could picture the music playing at the parts where the last petals are going to fall off the rose and it doesn't seem that the spell will be broken.
I hope your semester gets a little less stressful.
I definitely enjoy the "driving alone and singing as loud as possible" thing too. But when I'm trying to write my third paper of the week I find that leaving the house to go on a drive might not be the best idea as I just might stay away for a lot longer than I should.
P.S. I've now officially listened to the first song at least 20 times. Literally! I love it!
I realize also that the composer is the same one who wrote Carmina Burana, which I love! That's all :)
Oh wait, I also love driving alone and singing as loud as possible. Now that's all :)
I like them both. I could imagine falling asleep to the second one very relaxing music indeed.
Love to sing loud too, just not where anyone can hear me.
It must be a family thing-driving alone and singing as loud as possible. Especially love to do that on long trips. People who pull up beside me must think that I am crazy. Love to roll down my window at lights and turn up the music.
Really love the first piece as well. It is haunting and beautiful-almost reminded me of some African music.
Thanks for sharing.
As I listened to the first one again, it struck me exactly why I thought of Africa. Because it reminded me of reggae on an iron drum band in the Caribbean. And the rythyms of reggae are definitely of African origin. It is beautiful and haunting and I am going to add it to my play list
Thanks for introducing it to us Timbo!!!
I got you beat A.L. (since you are probably at school right now), as I have listened to it more than twenty times!!!
They're both beautiful, although I especially like the first one. I hope you get past the stress soon. :)
